C&M Organics is a family run organic fruit & veg farm business, growing, supplying and distributing fruit and vegetables across South West Wales. They supply wholesale with the emphasis always being on their own or other, Welsh produce before looking elsewhere. They do buy in from growers in the UK and Europe in order to keep a steady supply of produce throughout the year. They have several box schemes across the three counties of South West Wales and offer a bespoke ordering system.
What is the involvement with the WCFD project?
C&M Organics was approached in early 2023 to supply Lampeter Community Food Hub, which is based at Lampeter University. Each week the community food hub volunteers take orders for £5 bags of fruit and vegetables, with the supplier deciding the contents, in order to give the best value on the day. The supplier delivers the produce in bulk and the volunteers separate the produce into the number of orders received. Around 85% of the veg supplied is Welsh.
What aspect has been most useful?
Being able to add Lampeter Community Food Hub to an existing route has brought down delivery costs plus it’s provided additional social media coverage for the business along with bringing extra customers who probably wouldn’t have been reached otherwise.
What is the result of being involved in the project?
As C&M is already experienced in doing a bespoke box scheme, this has enabled them to further expand their customer base and access a new market without much additional time input.
